Great Day
Chinese Friend Day at our place!
We're always honored to have Ting and Weifeng with us (and I apologize in case of bad spelling). Today we met up here, then went on to Mom and Dad's. After our usual dinner, we watched Charissa as she showed them what she could do. Well, actually, she started that the minute they came into the house, but she just went at it even more there.
After they sat around and became acquainted with Brennan's idea of entertainment--truck overhaul shows--and the Three Stooges, we went to Trankler Road where we saw Grandma and Grandpa's old place. I wish it looked like it did when they were there, but all I have to hang onto as far as that goes are memories. The buildings are nearly all down and the fields are nothing more than brush and the house is changed and the fruit trees that I remember have mostly been replaced by a swimming pool. Funny thing is that all I have to do is go by and I can see my cousins and me riding bikes and ponies and playing ball in the yard, as we did on Sunday afternoons thirty-some years ago. I told them a lot of this as we drove by. What's even funnier is that Ting seemed to feel the hurt of seeing its rundown condition nearly as much as I do. "It's a pity," she said.
We returned to Mom and Dad's for a few moments, then came home so that they could get home before it got too dark.
Days like this always remind me how much there is to contribute and to receive. I always get into my shell because...well, between work and family, I often get bogged down. Having a day where we can just share with friends is so rewarding. I need to look for more of those days.
